Katie's First Haircut

So, Katie will turn two May 9th and she's never had a haircut. Her hair was long, but really uneven and always in her eyes so we decided it was time she got a haircut. Unfortunately I forgot my camera and did not have my phone to take picutres. The salon was supposed to take a picture but they ran out of Polaroid film. She was really cute sitting in a firetruck watching Scooby Doo while the lady cut her hair. I was excited to get home to take her picture with her hair fixed cute but she fell asleep and had to have a nap. Here are some pics of her before and after.

Stuck Up

Katie's latest fascination is putting things up her nose. Eric and Charles never did this so I don't quite understand it. It all started last week during dinner. She was eating green beans just fine until she saw Charles opening them up to take out the seeds. She gathered a few seeds and started putting them up her nose. Last time I checked foreign objects in your nose is not pleasant, but Katie seems okay with it. I finally had to throw her food away and make her leave the table. Over the next few days any small object she found she tried to put up her nose. One morning she was eating and I went in the other room for a few minutes. When I came back she was sneezing repeatedly. She had soggy cereal stuffed up her nose. The next day she got into her little rubber hair bands. I thought I had them all picked up until I saw her eyes watering like crazy and she was sneezing. I pulled out two rubber bands from each nostril. Again this morning she pulled out her ponytail and put the rubber band way, way up her nose. A few goods sucks from the bulb syringe allowed me to pull it out. I'll cross my fingers and hope we don't have to see the doctor any time soon.

Palmer Park Adventure

This just in....The Crystal brothers, ages 7 and 5 have successfully climbed the bluffs of Palmer Park. This is not their first successful ascent of the bluffs. Both boys have been climbing for close to three years. The weather was beautiful and provided perfect conditions for hiking and climbing. They blazed existing trails and created a few of their own. At one point in their journey Charles thought they might not make it down. However, he was prepared to build a fire by rubbing two sticks together if needed. The two brave boys found a way down a steep rock. The expedition was a huge success with only one minor injury to report. Eric slipped while climbing down and landed on a small cactus. His hand suffered minor injuries. Congratulations boys, you did it (again)!

Boundary Changes

Today we had a special stake meeting to discuss boundary changes in our area. We found out that among many changes our ward has been dissolved and a new ward made. We no longer belong to the Colorado Springs 1st ward, we are now the Palmer Park ward. First and seventh wards have combined to create this new ward. Part of our ward was lost to another one. I couldn't find the map on the stake web page so I'm not sure who we lost. Our bishop was released which is sad because we had a really good bishop. Seventh ward bishop will remain the bishop of the new Palmer Park ward and our old first counselor became a new counselor in the bishopbric. The way I understand it is that seventh ward people will keep their callings and the first ward people's calling are dissolved for now. I'm sad because I was in the Primary presidency and absolutely loved it and the ladies who I worked with. Change is good I guess, it gives us an opportunity to grow and meet new people. One good thing to come out of this is sacrament meeting time change. We now go at 8:30 instead of 12:30, no more interfering with naps and lunch and normal daily routines. We'll see how it goes next week.

Funny things said between brothers

Charles and Eric were watching Tom and Jerry. They always pretend to be one of the characters while they are watching. They were both laughing about something that happened and Eric told Charles he was awesome. Charles replied, "I am not awesome, I am Jerry".

Chili Cook Off

The Elders Quorum has made a tradition of holding a chili cook off. It's pretty fun to go and taste all of the different kinds of chili that people make. In the past they have had judges do the tasting and voting but this year they opened it up so each person could vote for their favorite. The first year we didn't do so well, we won the mildest chili award. Last year we won best green chili (we were the only green chili entry, but in Dean's defense it was good green chili). This year we moved up a bit to third place over all with a recipe we found from Emeril. Each year it gets bigger and bigger with more and more people coming. Brother Burns and Brother Munk watch out we'll be better next year!
